When the Spirit Keeps Speaking

Some days it feels easier to stay quiet. To avoid difficult conversations, keep our heads down, and not risk being misunderstood. But in John 15, Jesus reminds his followers that living with compassion, mercy, and truth has never been the easy road. There will always be voices that push back against kindness, inclusion, and justice. Still, Jesus promises that we are not left alone in that work. The Spirit continues to move through ordinary people who are simply trying to love others well.

Holding On Together While Waiting

I think many of us know what it feels like to live in that space between what used to be and whatever comes next. It can feel unsettling. We want answers, reassurance, and some sense that things are going to be okay. Yet the followers of Jesus understood something important during one of those uncertain moments in their lives — they stayed together. They prayed, supported one another, and refused to let fear or uncertainty pull them apart. There is something deeply meaningful about that for us today.

Don’t Miss the Quiet You’re Standing In

Some days just feel full. Not always bad, just full. One thing runs into the next, and before we know it, we’ve carried a whole day without ever really settling into it. And somewhere along the way, I’ve noticed this in my own life, we start thinking peace has to be something big to count. A free afternoon. A quiet house. A break from it all. But more often than not, that kind of peace just doesn’t come.

What Was Meant for You

I have been thinking a lot about how easy it is to lose our sense of peace without even realizing it. It does not usually happen all at once. It comes in small ways. A steady diet of bad news. A harsh word that lingers longer than it should. The quiet pull toward fear or resentment. Before long, joy feels farther away than it once did. And yet, I keep coming back to this reminder from Jesus, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:10. That kind of life is not shallow or fleeting. It is rooted. It is steady. It is still available to us, even now.

There is a quiet truth I keep coming back to in my spiritual life: not every voice speaking into our lives is meant to guide us. We are surrounded by noise these days, opinions, urgency, and a constant pull on our attention. It is easy to drift without even realizing it. But somewhere deeper within us, there is a longing for a voice that truly knows us, that calls us by name, and leads us not into confusion, but into peace. That voice is not loud or demanding. It shows up in prayer, in stillness, in those moments when we finally slow down enough to listen.

And then, in a gentler moment, I remember that my life with God has never depended on the strength of my grip, but on the faithfulness that holds me. Even in the quiet, even in the uncertainty, I am not alone. I have never been.
